In an atmosphere of deep devotion, Greek Orthodox Christians follow the peak of the Divine Drama of the Passion of Christ on Good Friday with the Epitaph Lamentation Service and the procession through the streets of the parish.
The Lamentation Service began earlier in the evening and its culmination is the Epitaph procession that leads through bright or narrow streets of every city, town or village in every corner of Greece.
The procession is usually followed by the faithful locals who are holding yellow candles to show their mourning for the death of Jesus Christ.
Hundreds of faithful have been going to the Metropolitan Church of Athens since morning to venerate the Epitaph.
