Dutch tourist steals precious jewelry, trades hotel room with prison cell

A Dutch tourist stole a necklace worth thousands of euros from a jewelry store in Hersonissos on the island of Crete on Tuesday. He was located from CCTV footage and his identification was possible from the hotel bracelet on his arm. He ended up in jail with less comfortable bracelets, with handcuffs.

The 41-year-old Dutch tourist came for vacations in Crete and booked in a good hotel, apparently All Inclusive.

He visited a jewelry shop in the tourist resort and through the method of strolling through the store and keeping the young employee busy,  he stole a necklace with precious stones worth 6,000 euros from the store’s display cases.

At the time of the theft, the shop owner was absent but when he returned he realized the theft and immediately checked the footage from the security cameras.

He told Mega TV Live News that he forwarded the video with the thief to friends and businessmen who forwarded it further and it was soon found out that the man was wearing the bracelet of a specific hotel.

Police was called in, the thief’s identification was easy as he was recorded clearly and his arrest followed quickly.

The Dutchman was arrested and the stolen jewelry was found in his possession.

The necklace was returned to the owner and the Dutch tourist exchanged his comfortable hotel room with a uncomfortable cell, which however, offers also an All Inclusive service, even though of questionable quality.
