Dozens of undocumented migrants stranded on Greek islands; One dead

Greece’s Coast Guard located and rescued 158 foreign nationals in the sea region south of the island of Gavdos on Tuesday.

The undocumented migrants were in three boats and the rescue operation was carried out with the participation of Coast Guard vessels and the assistance of a Frontex drone as well as by two foreign-flagged vessels that were sailing nearby.

All the rescued were transferred safely to the port of Gavdos.

Also on Tuesday, one person died and 28 were rescued when a boat carrying undocumented migrants from Turkey to Greece sank off the island of Chios, state broadcaster ERT reported.
