Body found in burning jeep in Pangrati district of Athens

Police in Athens are investigating the discovery of a dead body inside a red jeep that had gone up in flames in the early hours of Thursday, in the  area of Mets in the district of Pangrati.

The incident took place around 1:30 in the morning with residents of the area to have alerted the Fire Service.

According to initial information, neither the body nor the car could be identified, even though residents told media and police that they had seen the car parked in different spots lately.

Thursday afternoon as the investigation proceeded, media reported that the body belonged to an man sitting in reclining position in the passenger’s seat. Some officially unconfirmed reports claimed the limbs of the body were broken.

According to Mega TV Live News, the car had Belgian license plates and that Greek authorities are to ask their Belgian counterparts to identify the owner’s name and other data.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted later on Thursday, while police continues investigation in the remainings of the jeep, the mobile and any suspicious evidence found at the scene.

According to reports, police investigates three scenarios: suicide, murder, accident -through a lit cigarette, for example.
