There will be no domestic or international flights to and from Greece’s airports on Thursday, as the Civil Aviation Authority’s air traffic controllers and electronics mechanics are participating in the 24-hour nationwide strike by the Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY).

However, flight cancellations and itinerary changes are to be expected on Wednesday as well, as air traffic controllers are staging a job walk out from 06:00 to 12:00 midday, followed by the mechanics, who will walk out from 12:00 midday to 18:00 on the same day.

Another 4-hour job walk out has been announced for Friday, this time by the Civil Aviation Authority’s telecommunication workers, who will be abstaining from work duties from 10:00 to 14:00.

The Federation of Civil Aviation Service Associations will be joining the upcoming nationwide strike, as will the Air Traffic Controllers Association (EEEKE) and the Union of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Mechanics (ENHMAEK).

The unions are protesting the restructuring of the country’s Civil Aviation Authority under new legislation, currently in discussion at parliament.

No metro or tram in Athens

There will be no tram and metro services in Athens this Thursday after staff in STASY, the fixed-rail public transport organization, decided to join a 24-hour strike called by the Athens Labor Centre.

In an announcement, STASY SA employees said that they were “not willing to accept the use of the pandemic as a ‘tool’ for passing anti-labor legislation to trample decades of rights and entitlements.”
