Two Divers Found Dead in Underwater Cave off Karpathos

Two foreign nationals have been found dead in an underwater cave off the island of Karpathos, the second largest of the Dodecanese islands, in the southeastern Aegean Sea.

The two men, aged 65 and 30, dived inside the cave on Saturday at a depth of 45 meters (150 feet). A third man who was also inside the cave with them turned back because of a lack of air. When he broke surface he did not find his co-divers so he then contacted the authorities.

Divers from the Greek coast guard’s Underwater Missions Team found the bodies Sunday afternoon and are in the process of retrieving them.

No further details have been released regarding the incident.
