Syrian Men Posing as Volleyball Team Nabbed at Athens Airport

The group of illegal immigrants after they were detained at Athens’ airport

Greek police arrested a group of ten illegal immigrants from Syria at Athens’ International Airport on Saturday.

The men, who were posing as a volleyball team, were attempting to travel with illegally-obtained passports.

Police said on Sunday that the refugees, who entered Greece without legal documents, arrived at Eleftherios Venizelos airport on Saturday, hoping their disguise would get them past ID controls more easily.

They wore matching outfits, carried matching sports bags and brought along two volleyballs for good measure.

But border police established that the passports they presented had been illegally obtained, and immediately arrested the group.

According to information from police sources, the group had hoped to travel to Zurich, using Ukrainian passports.
