Legendary Pink Floyd guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour of the UK showcased the beautiful Greek island of Hydra and its stunning scenery in his recently released song “Yes, I Have Ghosts.”

The song, which premiered on Gilmour’s YouTube channel on Friday, July 3, marks the first musical piece he has sung after five years of silence. The lyrics were written by his wife Polly Samson, and his daughter Romany also provided vocal accompaniment to the tune.

Gilmour had chosen to shoot the music video in Hydra back in March, before the coronavirus quarantine was imposed on the entire nation. The video, shot by a hand-held camera, features the beautiful waters of the Aegean Sea, which mingle as one with the warm colors of the sunset, creating an ethereal atmosphere.

The video itself is a testament to the natural beauty of Greece, and prominently showcases it to viewers who are unfortunately unable to visit the paradise destination at the present time due to Covid-19 banksnewscols.

Gilmour is shown walking through the narrow alleyways of Hydra’s iconic white and blue colored buildings, at one point passing by the historic tavern called “Dry Olive.”

The “Dry Olive,” which was showcased in the music video, has been extant for almost 200 years, and is referred to by locals as the Douskos Tavern, after the family which owns the establishment. Photo: www.hydradirect.com

Shots of pastoral landscapes and panoramic views of both the waters and the blue skies over the island are also inserted throughout the song, capturing Greece’s natural beauty for Gilmour’s legions of fans.

The inspiration behind the song “Yes, I Have Ghosts,” was Polly Samson’s new book, “A Theatre for Dreamers,” which was released in April of this year. The novel takes place on Hydra in 1960, and captures the lives of the poets, painters and musicians who where present during the island’s bohemian heyday.

Gilmour is extremely fond of Greece himself; he visiting the country quite often and owns a summer house down in Lindos, Rhodes. His daughter Sara was married on the island as well, in June of 2017.

Both the song “Yes, I Have Ghost,” and the novel “Theatre for Dreamers,” are beautiful, heartfelt expressions of the couple’s deep love for Hydra, and Greece as a whole.
