Tens of firefighters in Greece’s second-largest city Thessaloniki assembled outside AHEPA University Hospital recently, where medical staff have been tirelessly offering treatment to COVID-19 patients for several weeks.

AHEPA Doctors, nurses and paramedics found a few moments to go outside the University to see the firefighters paying tribute to their courageous efforts, and return their respects as well.

The medical staff responded the gesture, applauding the firefighters back, since they also continue to selflessly be on call for any emergency during this time of contagion, putting themselves at risk as well.

The firefighters also thanked all these medical heroes, who have been giving the absolute best of themselves to protect Greek society from the pandemic, by turning their sirens on in an additional tribute.

”Be strong, be healthy and we will be by your side. Thank you!” were the moving words of the firefighters, in a rare public gesture of solidarity and respect.
