Private sector arrears to the state totaled 98.231 billion euros in August, with new debt so far this year up 1.068 billion from the previous month to 8.551 billion euros, from 7.483 billion in July, the Public Revenue Independent Authority said in a report released on Thursday.
Existing arrears (up to December 31, 2016), fell to 89.680 billion euros in August from 89.872 billion in July.
New arrears from tax debt grew by 938 million euros in August to 6.551 billion, from 5.723 billion in July. The number of debtors totaled 3,857,086 in August from 3,978,127 in the previous month. A total of 971,508 debtors are currently included in legal debt collection procedures, while another 1,652,508 could be included in the future.
