A Greek-American elderly couple that recently arrived via a transit flight to Greece, was rushed to the hospital after tested positive for Covid-19.
The couple was initially cleared of coronavirus after undergoing a test at Athens airport about ten days ago.
However, the seventy-four-year-old man contracted symptoms a couple of days later when reached his final destination at the island of Karpathos in the Dodecanese.
He was later admitted to the Venizelio General Hospital in Heraklion in order to be treated, after developing a fever and feeling generally unwell.
Health authorities were sent to track down the contacts of the man, following the banksnewscols and health mandates that are put in place.
After tracking down the wife and taking a sample, the results showed that she too had contracted the virus and was infected. She was rushed to the same hospital as her husband in Heraklion and is currently being treated in the Covid-19 Unit.
Due to direct flights from the US continuing to remain under ban, the couple had entered Greece through a transit flight.
As Greece continues to open its borders slowly to international tourists across several countries, the US remains on a ban list due to having higher rates of the coronavirus.
