Greece’s Coronavirus Total Reaches 124 in Last 24 Hours

The Greek Health Authority EODY announced on Wednesday that the number of coronavirus infections detected around the country reached 124 in the last 24 hours, while one death had occurred in that period of time.

The fatality brings the overall death total in Greece to 210, with the total number of those who have suffered from the disease, including all those who have recovered from it, is now 4,973.

Following a recent trend, just fifteen of the new cases were detected at the nation’s border gates or at other points of entry; all the others, except for none cases, which were picked up by way of voluntary testing, were of domestic origin.

At present, thirteen patients are intubated in ICU’s across the country. The average age of these patients is 70. Fully 69.2% of these individuals suffer from another medical condition or are over 70 years of age.

Since the beginning of the outbreak, a total of 129 individuals have been successfully discharged from ICU’s in Greece. Almost half, or 49.8%, of all the cases in the country have been traced to known cases, whereas 27.1% are linked to travel abroad.

The city of Athens currently has 22 cases of the coronavirus, with the same number reported for the country’s second largest city of Thessaloniki.

However, as Dr. Sotiris Tsiodras referred to in his remarks at Tuesday’s press conference, the number of infections in sites that are scattered all over the country is a worrying trend. Eighteen cases alone have now been traced to a wedding that took place in Alexandropouli on the island of Evros.

Other cases which have been traced to weddings have occurred on the island of Rhodes and in the region of Magnesia.
