The “Greece 2040” forum, organized with the aim of mapping out the country’s future in the coming 20 years, kicked off with a presentation of the forum’s goals on Wednesday.

The first official meeting of Greece 2040 will take place in October, where 14 organizations will outline their contributions to the nation’s future.

Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, along with representatives from the participating institutions, attended the preliminary meeting to discuss the forum’s purpose of looking ahead and creating pathways for Greece’s future successes as a country.

In his comments at the presentation, Mitsotakis stressed that organization participating in the forum should identify specific interventions to be made for the country’s future that are in line with their fields of expertise, whether they be topics of environmental, social, political, or economic interest.

Additionally, he laid out the forum’s goals, including “to think more transcendentally, more boldly, to try to map what the world will be like 20 years from now.”

Greece 2040 is opportunity to “define our future”

Rather than thinking in the short term, Mitsotakis added, institutions participating in the forum should pursue bold, ambitious goals for the nation’s development in the long term.

The celebration of the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution provides the perfect opportunity for Greeks not just to “reminisce about our glorious past… but also to define our future,” the Prime Minister stated Wednesday.

Examining long-term solutions for Greece’s, and the world’s, most pressing issues, is a gift for future generations, the Greek PM noted:

“I cannot imagine a better offer than to think honestly… about the very important moral and political dilemmas that these important developments will force us to face.”

Greece 2021 Committee partnership

The Greece 2040 forum was organized in partnership with the “Greece 2021” committee.

This group, formed to handle the country’s celebrations for the bicentennial celebration of the Greek Revolution of 1821, also organizes cultural events and investment projects across Greece which embody the spirit and history of the nation.

Greek businesswoman Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, the head of the Greece 2021 organizing committee, is best known as the president of the bidding and organizing committees for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

Many prominent business people, academics, cultural figures, and historians serve on the Greece 2021 committee along with Angelopoulos-Daskalaki.
