Three patients from the Drama region suffering from Covid-19 were airlifted to hospitals in Athens on Thursday, as hospitals in northern Greece reached capacity due to the virus surge.
The patients were transferred in isolation capsules inside an Air Force C-130 carrier aircraft that left from the Elefsina military airport on Thursday morning and landed in the city of Kavala, public broadcaster ERT said.
On Wednesday, a record 598 patients were in intubation, putting pressure on the National Public Health Organization (EODY).
Northern Greece is hit the hardest during the second wave of the pandemic. Characteristically, in the last 24 hours, 633 new infections were recorded in Thessaloniki, 160 in Larissa, 106 in Pella, 69 in the Magnesia Prefecture and 61 in the Imathia Prefecture.
